Blow Mold Wiki

The Realmingo is a blow mold garden decoration made from 1999 to 2005 by Union Products and from 2010 to present by Cado Products. It resembles a larger, more realistic version of the iconic Lawn Flamingo made by Don Featherstone.

History[]

In 1999, after sales for the Union pink flamingos began to fail, Don Featherstone, creator of the iconic pink lawn flamingo, decided to create an updated flamingo mold, one that he intended to be lifesize and more realistic than the first, to grab potential buyers eyes; he then created the Realmingo, a flamingo that ended up being completely life sized and was so big, only one could be packaged at a time, when the original flamingos were packed in pairs. In addition, the Realmingo has one red leg pole where the originals had two silver ones, and the other leg is molded into the side of the bird's body. While the Realmingo is not completely lifelike, it is still considered a major upgrade from the original, and sought after by flamingo fans.

After Union's closing in 2006, Cado Products acquired the mold to the Realmingo after their purchase of nearly all Union molds and assets and began reproducing them again in 2010.
